Epic FAIL FAIL FAIL!

The excitement of painting for myself, finally smack me hard right on my face. I'm working on both the Contemplation series in which I'm re-interpreting the impression of light reflected on foil as well as other random paintings and experiments. And I do this in between classes that I teach, or my days off.

Often times, I stumble upon obstacles and undesired outcome during experimenting with mediums and materials for my art. This one really caught me aback with eyes wide open and pants almost down (the zip on my pants not working). But anyhoo, I welcome this as a challenge. This catch phrase came to my mind at the aftershock,,from movie 300 where King Leonidas said, "This is where we hold them, this is where we fight, and this is where they die!! ( I might be wrong in that phrase tho)

Today I am quite productive in the studio, fighting the urge to play 'Little Commando WW2" in my android.... I love this game so f**king much , dammit! And at this moment, I don't feel like typing... but I'll fight! I need to document my stuff, dammit!

And the fight against the urge.... (not pee urge or anything sexual) prevails. I almost complete my another addition to the Contemplation series ( which stresses my "recovering control-freak" part of the brain), and did some progress with my "epic fail" above.

Will upload the progress when my epic-fail turns to epina-colada ok?

Cheers.

*side note: I'm not a talker or a typist thus, what I've typed and spoken is actually a personal achievement. Yay!

Another addition to the Contemplation series titled, Layers and Light. White pencil and acrylic on canvas. 30"40". 2016

Was posted the day before yesterday in my facebook page and took me till now to post on this one. The BlogSpot app in my phone wouldn't upload my photos... uuuurrrghhh. Obviously, my work kinda moved away from the more painterly to more suggestive. Which I thankfully welcome with open arms.

Every time I make developments with my work, and at that moment itself it open up something new. I cant resist the adventure. Thus, I got materials that I wanna explore with and that material dwindled out so fast as I used... not so much I hope, but I need to get more definitely. Can't get enough of them at the moment.

Oh, I emailed Sarah Lee (an art photographer from Hawaii) on whether I can use her photos as reference and she emailed me back with approval. Which is effing awesome as her photography is an inspiration for me with the elements that I love. Thank you Sarah!

The Impression of the mountain I want to climb. Oil on canvas, 2016

On the floor, lay a painting of an impression of a mountain I want to climb. It's a fantasy mountain, where I lay hidden underneath the clouds. Heaving and panting as I take excruciating steps to reach an inch higher from where I had been. Where everything fades like smoke whereas breathing and throbbing legs becomes one. My eyes just fixed on one point in the horizon. Where possibilities lay unseen till the gap between the torture stretched out revealing the ocean. There, I shall jump.

And the building continues... origami-ing in progress

Took me a late afternoon till sundown to paint this much. Then I got blanked, and I stopped. But the painting mood was still there and I felt that I still have something to pour... I painted a mountain, at which, looking out the window and savoring the crisp, green breeze made me feel like painting one. I've been in a mountain... a volcano to be exact which erupted only a few months ago. Rinjani. I've never seen snowy mountains like the travel documentaries and books show. But I would love to. So I painted a mountain from the soul. And imagine that crisp, green breeze flowing through my nostril and nourish my body. Maybe it exist. Might not too... but mountains... how I am inspired by the sheer awe.The Giant. The Legend. The Inspiration.

Will post the painting of this mountain as soon as I feel it is almost complete.

Custom-made in progress

Custom-made. Unfinished. Work in progress. For now its acrylic foundation. Need to add colour to faces. Oil will be added for touch-ups in certain areas. I was given individual photographs of these people separately and was requested to portray family support for those 2 people at the top. So I suggested putting other family members montage below, to symbolize support or pillar to their success. I do not know this family so I sketched out my ideas first on paper for approval. Now it's on a 30"x40" canvas with rough brushstrokes style. Deadline... in a jiffy.

This is another custom-made in progress. Am working simultaneously with the family portrait above. This one is on a 30"x24" canvas. Objective is to be light-hearten with symbolism related to that person portrayed. So I suggested a blown-up portrait with the symbolism reflected on the sunglasses.
Well I know that it doesn't make sense that the reflection is not mirror image, but it's the symbolism that counts and rules are meant to be broken.
The photo of this person was without sunglasses and in fact, her husband is beside her covering part of her face. So I had to find out what kind of sunglasses she wears and I was given a very pixelated picture of her in a distance wearing shades. I had a rough idea on how it looks and montage the sunglasses on her face and had the symbols "bend-it-like-beckham" to simulate reflection on an actual sunglasses.
This is a challenge definitely, but I enjoy the challenge. Deadline... almost now.

And the building continues...

Another step to building the Contemplation series. I've come to realize that what I'm painting is like extreme origami, third removed...(refer to Plato). Thus I refer it to "building". The painting process feels like sculpting... almost... although I know nuts about sculpting... as in real life sculpting... like make a statue... you know...... aaargh now this gave me an idea... wait... what???
